Ramesh Pandey, born in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, Nepal, is a renowned Muay Thai athlete and professional trainer. Starting his journey at the age of 8, he quickly rose to prominence as one of Nepal’s most celebrated sports figures. Ramesh achieved extensive training in Bangkok, Thailand, the birthplace of Muay Thai, where he honed his skills to the highest level under expert guidance.
With a career marked by multiple national and international championships, Ramesh has played a pivotal role in popularizing Muay Thai in Nepal. Beyond his accomplishments as a fighter, he has been a dedicated coach, empowering aspiring athletes and teaching self-defense techniques to combat human trafficking, especially in rural communities.
Ramesh is also a respected judge in Muay Thai competitions and serves as a board member of various associations, including the Nepal Thai Boxing Association and WBC Nepal. Ramesh Pandey emerged from Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, not only as a Muay Thai athlete but also as a symbol of courage, discipline, and compassion. Starting his journey at the age of eight, Ramesh won numerous championships, earned respect in the international sports arena, and dedicated his life to empowering Nepal’s youth and vulnerable communities. Today, he stands as an influential figure in Nepali sports and a beacon of hope for many.
Ramesh Pandey was born in Budhanilkantha in 1999. He showed an interest in sports from an early age and developed a fascination for Muay Thai at the age of eight. It was not just a sport but became a way of life, which he embraced with discipline, respect, and courage. Despite limited resources, Ramesh found innovative ways to practice and hone his skills.
As a teenager, Ramesh began participating in local competitions. He started competing in championships in 2012 and quickly gained recognition as a rising athlete. Excelling on the national stage in Muay Thai, he went on to represent Nepal internationally, winning numerous medals. He became one of Nepal’s first Muay Thai athletes to achieve international recognition.
Becoming part of the first official batch of Muay Thai athletes in Nepal, Ramesh played a pivotal role in promoting and developing the sport. He contributed significantly by organizing competitions, motivating young athletes, and laying the groundwork for future generations.
Transitioning from an athlete to a coach, mentor, and trainer, Ramesh expanded his role. Beyond his sports achievements, Pandey is also known for his humanitarian contributions. He has worked tirelessly to fight against human trafficking by teaching this martial art and providing self-defense training to young women in rural and underprivileged areas. Through these initiatives, he has instilled courage and confidence in many young women, enabling them to combat exploitation.

Ramesh Pandey’s sports journey includes numerous successes in various national-level championships. Pandey proved his excellence by winning a gold medal in the Muay Thai Championship organized by the National Sports Council of Nepal and the Nepal Thai Boxing Association in 2013.
In the following years, he continued his stellar performance, winning another gold medal in the Muay Thai Championship organized by the National Sports Council in 2014. Ramesh secured a silver medal in the 2015 Muay Thai Championship organized by the Nepal Thai Boxing Association. However, he strengthened his game further, winning gold medals again in 2016 and 2018. Thus, he established himself as a consistently successful athlete in Muay Thai for Nepal. Ramesh Pandey’s journey to international success began in 2017 when he won a bronze medal in the 2nd Thai Martial Arts Games and Festival (World Championship 2017) held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Three Medals from Thailand
Kathmandu (K.R.) – Nepal has won three medals, including one silver, at the 2nd Thai Martial Arts World Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand. Sabin Kumar Rai secured a silver medal in the men’s 57 kg category, while Nikesh Tamang in the 51 kg category and Ramesh Pandey in the 67 kg category won bronze medals, according to Namaraj Bhandari, Chairperson of the Nepal Thai Boxing Association.
Nikesh, who had previously won gold, settled for bronze this time. Among the participants from Nepal, Raj Rai in the 54 kg category returned without a medal. The competition was held from March 12 to 22. The team returned on Thursday.
Nepalese Thai Boxing Team to Depart for Bangkok
The Nepal Thai Boxing¡ Association’s team is departing for Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday to participate in the 2nd Thai Martial Arts World Championship. The team consists of six members, including four male athletes.
Nikesh Tamang will compete in the 51 kg category, Raju Rai in the 54 kg category, Sabin Rai in the 57 kg category, and Ramesh Pandey in the 63 kg category.
Nikesh is the gold medalist from the previous edition, while the other three athletes will be making their debut in an international competition.
The team leader is the Association’s Chairperson, Namaraj Bhandari, with Shyam Krishna Basnet serving as the official. Chairperson Bhandari shared that the competition, scheduled from March 12 to 22, will see the participation of approximately 57 nations.
